Stand

Scripture

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. Revelation 3:15‭-‬17 (NIV)

One quote that I remember from one of my mentors as a child is, "if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything." Throughout the years that line has played in my head in various situations. I often have to remind myself of that quote when I am lukewarm or indecisive on something. At other times when I am very passionate about something I also remember those words. One thing I have learned from my wife about my personality is most often I am not very passionate about many things (what to eat, vacation, what I wear, etc.), but the ones that I am I make it well known! The other area where I will take a stand is with my happiness or the things that attempt to disrupt my happiness.

The most important area where I take a stand is in my relationship with God. As Christian we always have to be willing to take a stand for what we believe. Defending what we believe in our heart takes courage and being willing to stand is honorable. God doesn't want us to be lukewarm in our faith and commitment to Him. See Revelation 3:15-16. Those two verses tell us to pick a side. Then in verse 17, it lets us know our wealth and possession are not what we should stand on and much less depend on.

I encourage you to listen to "Stand" John P. Kee. This song is what inspired me to write today's devotional.
